2016 MRKT BALL Benefit Gala

|| September 12, 2016

In celebration of 130th birthday of Indianapolis City Market’s historic Market House, Indianapolis City Market is hosting the 2016 MRKT Ball Benefit Gala on Saturday, Dec. 10th!

2016 MRKT BALL Benefit Gala

The festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. with a VIP Reception inside the Indy Bike Hub YMCA featuring the unveiling of the 2016 MRKT BALL poster design contest winners, the first tap of a 130th birthday anniversary brew courtesy of Sun King Brewery, a 130th birthday anniversary cocktail courtesy of Wilks & Wilson and music by Yadin Kol and Allison Victoria. VIP guests will also be permitted access to the City-County Building’s observation deck for the evening.

The celebration moves inside of the historic Market House at 7:00 p.m. with the start of the 2016 MRKT BALL benefit gala – a revival of Indianapolis City Market’s famed “To Market, To Market Ball” of the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Featuring a World’s Fair and Victorian-era/steam punk theme - a tribute to the era of the establishment of the Market House in 1886 - the MRKT BALL is a black-tie or costumed gala benefiting Indianapolis City Market.

Guests of the MRKT BALL will be able to stroll through the historic Market House and enjoy the captivating sounds of a local favorite, Chamber Music; savor delicious platters courtesy of participating Market House merchants; sample brews and cocktails courtesy of Tomlinson Tap Room, Sun King Brewery and Garden Party Botanicals; shop the Handmade Promenade artisan craft market, enjoy programming by Big Car Collaborative, view a series of short films screened in partnership with Indy Film Fest, and so much more! A variety of performances, activities and other events will continue in the historic Market House throughout the duration of the evening.

Dedication Ceremony for Santa Bayt and Corsaro Family

Beginning at 8:00 p.m., officials from Indianapolis City Market and the City of Indianapolis will gather for a special dedication ceremony honoring the 94-year-old Santa Bayt and the Corsaro family for their longstanding ties to City Market. As the guest of honor at the 2016 MRKT BALL benefit gala, Bayt will be honored with a mayoral proclamation, flowers and gifts for her role in the development and revitalization of the historic Market House over an 80-year period.

Indianapolis City Market Corporation

The 2016 MRKT BALL Benefit Gala celebration honors the history of the Market House and raises funds for Indianapolis City Market Corporation, the 501(c)3 nonprofit organization tasked with actively working to increase awareness of the agricultural, architectural and cultural history of the historic Market House.

“Indianapolis City Market’s importance to the Indianapolis community transcends cultural and anthropological impacts,” say Stevi Stoesz, Executive Director of Indianapolis City Market. “The Market House provided a platform for locals and immigrants to the city to sell their wares to the public and establish distinct, thriving neighborhoods. The Market House is as stunning architecturally today as it was in 1886, when it opened its doors to the public.”

The MRKT BALL is a revival of Indianapolis City Market’s famed “To Market, To Market Ball”. A partnership between Indianapolis City Market and the Cathedral Arts Society, “To Market, To Market Ball” was an annual fundraising gala drawing massive crowds with nearly 4,000 individuals in attendance each year in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The gala brought together some of Indianapolis’ most prominent citizens in an effort to raise funds for necessary Market House repairs when Indianapolis City Market was under threat of closure by city officials.
